Embracing Consistency: The Key to Success

Table of Contents

In life and business, inconsistency can be the greatest obstacle to achieving your goals. Reflecting on my journey, I recognize that inconsistency has led to missed opportunities. Here, I’ll share pivotal insights on how to embrace consistency and make it a core part of your daily routine.

The Cost of Inconsistency

In the first year of my business journey, we achieved an impressive 70 deals in just the first two months. However, due to a lack of consistency, we plateaued quickly. This period of stagnation further emphasized that inconsistency hampers growth.

  • 💡 Tip: Always prioritize follow-ups. Even a subpar reply is better than going radio silent.

Real-Life Example: The Gym

I’ve been consistent with my gym workouts for a year and a half. Before I found this rhythm, I experimented with various methods to maintain consistency, including a $10,000 app that restricted phone usage until I scanned a QR code at the gym.

Even with this elaborate setup, I learned that something simple, like committing to just two minutes of exercise, is more beneficial than skipping a workout altogether. If I miss a week, a brief workout still counts as a victory.

  • Surprising Fact: A two-minute workout after a week-long break is still more effective than no workouts at all!

Defining Consistency

When we think of consistency, we often equate it with intensity or perfection. However, consistency simply means starting—even when it’s challenging.

  • Tip: No excuses; go to the gym, even when you’re sick or the weather is bad.

A personal habit I developed was to anchor my routine to small achievements. For example, I intentionally discarded the notion that every workout needs to be intense.

Instead of waiting for ideal conditions or perfect timeframes, I built a habit around showing up and making time for tasks regardless of how I felt.

Overcoming Procrastination

The reality is that learning to be good at anything requires just 20 hours. However, many people delay starting this journey, impacting their progress.

  • 🏗️ Practical Tip: Commit to only five minutes to start a task you put off. It reduces the mental barrier, making it easier to dive in.

To illustrate this point, I remember how daunting starting my YouTube channel felt. Initially, my videos weren’t polished. Despite their quality, immediate improvement was impossible. Yet, through consistent uploads, I saw gradual progression.

  • Quote: “You must first become consistent before you can become exceptional.”

Each video represents a stepping stone. My first video may have been rough, but each subsequent attempt—regardless of quality—improved my skills.

The Power of Action

In the context of tasks like sales or marketing, the significant takeaway is to prioritize the number of actions, not the quality.

  • 📈 Example: A team tasked with creating the most pots produced not only a higher quantity but also better quality over time, while those aiming for perfection struggled to produce anything.

It’s clear: consistent efforts yield results. It’s not about completing a task perfectly but showing up regularly. Reinforcing the idea of starting and removing pressure can lead to significant growth over time:

  • Tip: Every small effort compounds. A two-minute response today might lead to future connections.

Redefining Outputs

After a period of complacency in my business, it became critical to define what consistency means for daily productivity.

  1. Set Clear Weekly Goals: For instance, aim for 30 leads per month or complete all tasks daily.
  2. Task Completion: Develop a habit of finishing tasks, even if the output isn’t perfect.

Efforts should focus on execution rather than perfection. This can include answering inquiries, generating leads, and finishing administrative tasks.

  • 🌱 Quick Tip: Accomplish tasks even if you feel it’s a “shitty output.” What matters is the action itself.

Overcoming Mental Barriers

Avoiding the mistakes of prior periods of stagnation requires recognizing the mental barriers that can keep you from starting. Remember, consistency doesn’t need to be an overwhelming commitment.

  • Question to Reflect: What have you been delaying? What if you made an effort to tackle it today, just for a few minutes?

By consistently taking small steps, significant improvements aggregate over time. Each output, even perceived as insufficient, is part of a larger journey toward mastery and success.

Crafting an Action-Oriented Mindset

Success arises from a consistent insistence on action. Avoid vague terms and embrace clear, measurable goals.

  • 🔍 Define Your Goals: Instead of seeking “consistency,” ask yourself what specific actions you must take.

For example, aim to respond to five inquiries each day or complete running 10 deals weekly.

  • 🛠️ Final Reminder: Start today, no matter how small, and watch how consistency transforms your approach to tasks and goals.

Embrace & Own Your Journey

Ultimately, the objective is set a path to consistency. Every day offers a new opportunity to practice this mindset. By focusing on small, manageable actions, you can shift away from perfectionism towards a journey of gradual improvement.

  • 📅 Your Challenge: Begin something today that you’ve been putting off. Whether it’s generating leads or hitting the gym, take that first step.

Success doesn’t come from a single monumental effort; it’s built through a series of consistent, albeit small, actions. Keep pushing forward, and you’ll find that with determination, consistency leads to remarkable results over time.
